A car driving on Moscow Rd caught fire after hitting a tree Tuesday morning.

It happened around 6:15 a.m. Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to Moscow Rd north of Sterling Rd in Moscow Township.

The driver of the vehicle, Zachary Lynn Bumpus, age 21, of Horton, was traveling southbound on Moscow Rd when a deer jumped out in front of his vehicle. He swerved to avoid hitting the deer, crossed over the center line, and collided with a tree on the east side of the road. His vehicle caught fire and became fully involved.

Moscow Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

Bumpus was transported by Somerset EMS to the Hillsdale Hospital for injuries sustained.

He was wearing his seatbelt.
