JACKSON, MICH. Michigan Law requires that sex offenders in Michigan comply with Michigan’s Sex Offender Registration Act; failing to comply with the act can result in criminal prosecution. According to Michigan’s Sex Offender Registry, there are 96 non-compliant sex offenders in the Jackson Post area. Troopers from the Jackson Post are actively investigating sex offenders that are non-compliant, including but not limited to residence checks, employments checks, fee violations, and following up on tips received from the general public on registered sex offenders.
Since February of 2016, troopers working Jackson and Hillsdale counties have investigated 80 sex offenders that are non-compliant with Michigan’s Sex Offender Registration Act, resulting in 27 sex offenders being arrested. Troopers have warrants for another 17 more non-compliant sex offenders for failing to comply with the act, with an additional 21 investigations pending review at the prosecutor’s office.
The Michigan State Police Jackson Post commander, F/Lt. Kyle Bowman is urging registered sex offenders to maintain their compliance with the Michigan Sex Offender Registration Act; otherwise, the Michigan State Police will investigate for non-compliance and possible criminal charges.
