Lenawee County Sheriff, Jack Welsh, is warning residents of a subject who is going door to door impersonating a utility worker from Consumer’s Energy.

During the week of August 6th the Lenawee County Central Dispatch received calls from the Britton, Addison and Hudson areas regarding a suspicious subject. The subject knocks on doors and identifies himself verbally to the homeowner as being a worker from Consumer’s Energy. The subject tells the homeowners that Consumer’s Energy is going to be replacing utility lines in front of their residences. The subject then tells the homeowners that he needs to enter the home to check the electrical systems inside to make sure everything would be compatible with the new wires.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the complaints in Britton and Addison, the Michigan State Police are investigating the complaint in Hudson and both agencies are attempting to identify the suspect.

The suspect is described as being a white male in his 30’s with facial hair and missing front teeth. The suspect is possibly driving a gray or silver SUV type vehicle. It appears that the subject is specifically targeting homes of senior citizens at this time.

Sheriff Welsh advises residents that all utility workers will always have a picture ID and proper credentials. If the subject ask to enter your home and does not have the proper credentials, do not let them in and call 911.
