The Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on September 19, 2016 at 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of US 127 and Forrister Road, Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County.
A small passenger vehicle driven by a 63 year old woman from Hudson was stopped at the above location behind a small SUV driven by an 18 year old Hudson woman. Both vehicles were waiting behind a box truck driven by a 23 year old Addison man, facing southbound on US 127 waiting to turn left onto Forrister Road. A semi-tractor trailer driven by a 58 year old man from Hopkins, Michigan traveling southbound on US 127 crashed into the rear of the small passenger vehicle. The small passenger vehicle was pushed into the rear of the small SUV, which rear-ended the box truck.
The 23 year old Addison man was uninjured while the driver of the semi-truck was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance in Jackson by Addison EMS for treatment of minor injuries. The 18 year old Hudson woman and her 33 year old passenger sought their own treatment at Henry Ford Allegiance for unspecified injuries and were transported by personal vehicle. Terry Louise Rupnow, 63 years of age from Hudson, Michigan sustained fatal injuries caused by the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Addison Fire and Rescue, Hudson Fire Department, and the Lenawee County Sheriff Department. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, and all vehicle occupants were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
