On 10-1-16 at approximately 0643hrs Hillsdale County Central Dispatch advised Hillsdale County Sheriff Deputies and Michigan State Police Troopers of a fully engulfed structure fire at 2120 North Adams Rd in Fayette Twp. Central dispatch advised the caller was a family member that was on scene advising there was possibly a male subject still inside the residence. When deputies and fire personnel arrived on scene the residence was fully engulfed in flames.
The Jonesville Fire Department along with the Moscow and North Adams Fire Departments responded and were able to put the fire out. Upon further investigation by fire personnel human remains were located inside the residence. Deputies were not able to positively identify the subject at this time; further investigation with the Lucas County Coroner’s Office is ongoing.
Michigan State Police Fire Marshall was requested to the scene and the fire investigation was subsequently turned over to him.
After speaking with family members it was determined the property owner of this residence was a medical marijuana card holder and did in fact have medical marijuana at the residence. A large number of marijuana plants were seized from the residence at the request of family members.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Deputies were assisted on scene by the Jonesville Fire Department, Moscow Fire Department, North Adams Fire Department, Reading Emergency Unit, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Department and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division are continuing their investigations.
