At Approximately 12:50 pm, Saturday, October 8th, deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of CR 200 N west of CR 950 E, less than 2 mile south of the Hillsdale County/Indiana line, for a vehicle into a tree on fire.
Deputies arrived and found the driver of the vehicle, Tyler J. Worstell, age 22 of Montpelier, OH, laying outside the vehicle with possible internal and head injuries. He was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment by Samaritan Helicopter.
Tyler was eastbound on CR 200 N and lost control of his 1991 Chevrolet truck on a hill crest causing him to drive off the south side of the roadway where he struck a large tree. It appeared as though Tyler was able to exit the truck before the truck caught on fire.
Speed is believed to be a factor and Tyler was wearing his seat belt.
Assisting at the scene was Fremont Fire/Rescue, Samaritan Helicopter, Steuben County EMS, and Steuben County Communications.
