ALLEN TOWNSHIP – US-12 was shut down for 3 hours Friday evening, after a tractor-trailer crashed, injuring the driver.

Just after 7:00 p.m. a tractor-trailer drove off the road due to icy road conditions and crashed into a tree, blocking most of US-12 just east of Squires Road in Allen Township.

Authorities say the female driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hillsdale Hospital by Reading Emergency Unit.

The Michigan State Police and Motor Carrier Division are investigating the crash.

MSP was assisted by Allen Township Fire Department, Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department and Quincy Police Department.

The crash shut down US-12 between Squires Road and Hog Creek Road for three hours, reopening around 10:15 p.m.

Black ice caused numerous crashes and slide-offs along US-12 on Friday. Earlier that day, a tractor-trailer jack-knifed east of M-49, blocking the westbound lane.
