On Wednesday October 11, 2017 at approximately 3:59 P.M. Steuben County 911 received a report of a multiple vehicle accident on State Road 120 at the intersection of Swager Drive in the Town of Fremont. Fremont Police Officers were the first to arrive to find three vehicles involved with one vehicle on its top.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Tyler Sanders (Age 29 of Hudson, Indiana) was driving a 2003 Dodge pick-up traveling westbound on State Road 120 approaching Swager Drive. A 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada was also traveling westbound on State Road 120 and had stopped, waiting for traffic, to turn southbound on Swager Drive. Tyler’s vehicle struck the rear of the Oldsmobile Bravada causing the Bravada to be pushed into the path of an eastbound semi. The semi was operated by William Randick (age 51 of Birch Run, MI).
Both Tyler and William were uninjured in the crash. The driver of the Bravada was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office of blunt force trauma.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The accident is still under investigation at this time by the Fremont Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time to give immediate family time to notify relatives.
State Road 120 was closed in the area for nearly four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
